What to wear to SHIBUYA SKY

What to Wear
There is no dress code. Wear flat shoes: the rooftop floor is metal grating and thin heels catch in it, which I watch happen most evenings. Bring a layer more than the street needs, because 229 metres up it is colder and much windier than it is at the Crossing. Nothing loose on your head — hats have to come off or go in a locker before you go up.

Shoes first

The SKY STAGE floor is open grating. Stiletto heels catch, thin soles telegraph every edge, and you will be standing for the best part of an hour. Flat and closed is the whole recommendation. Anyone who has queued at the corner in the wrong shoes remembers it.

Layers, in every season

The wind at the top is not the wind at street level. A summer evening that felt warm on Center-gai is briskly cool up there, and in winter it is genuinely cold. A light jacket you can carry is enough, and it means you stay for the full light change rather than leaving early.

The loose-item rule

Anything that can blow off the roof stays downstairs, which includes hats. Bags go in the coin lockers on the 46th floor, and the ¥100 comes back. A phone is fine in your hand, and a strap is a sensible habit — more on the bag and locker rules and on shooting up there.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a dress code at SHIBUYA SKY?

No. Come as you are. The only practical constraints are flat shoes for the grating floor and nothing loose that could blow off the roof, hats included.

Can I wear heels to SHIBUYA SKY?

You can, and thin heels catch in the metal grating on the rooftop. Flat shoes make the hour up there considerably better.

Is it cold at the top?

Colder and windier than street level in every season, and the difference is bigger at night. Bring a layer if you are booking an evening slot — see the best time to visit.
