My verdict: the best-rated tour on this site, and the one I would book if the point of the evening is photographs. Two hours starting at the SHIBU HACHI BOX by the Hachikō statue, through back alleys most visitors would not find or walk into alone, with the guide helping on the photo side, and then up for the skyline with the rooftop ticket already covered. What it asks for in return is legs. Reviewers keep saying so, and they are not exaggerating.

Why it rates highest

Two names come up again and again. Kristina from Germany had Mao, who “showed us places where we never would’ve went alone”. Yee from the United States also had Mao and said Mao “did a terrific job with the historical context”. When 78 reviews average 4.9 and the same guide keeps getting named, the sensible read is that the briefing and the standard are consistent, not that one person got lucky.

The back alleys are the part I would pay for. Shibuya at night off the main streets is narrow, lit badly in an interesting way, and full of doorways that are unreadable if you cannot read the signs. A guide changes what those two hours are.

The walking

Christelle from South Africa wrote the most useful sentence in the whole review set: “be prepared for lots of walking. The Skyline View really gives you an idea of how vast the city is.” Take the first half of that literally. Who should not book this

Anyone with a knee, a hip or a stroller that makes two hours of city walking a chore. Anyone who wants Mount Fuji or daylight over the Crossing, which is the daytime tour. Anyone counting every dollar, because the cheaper night walk covers similar ground for less if you can live with more variable feedback. And anyone whose plan depends on the open-air level being open, since it closes in strong wind or heavy rain with no refund once you are through the gate.
