Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji Temple & Shibuya Sky private tour review

Private tour review
My verdict: a ten-hour private day in a van with hotel pickup, priced per group rather than per person, ending on the SHIBUYA SKY rooftop with the admission included. It is the only booking here that solves transport, and with a full group of five the per-head cost drops below several of the two-hour walks. For a couple it is poor value and I would not pretend otherwise. It also carries the thinnest review record on the site, which you should weigh before committing a whole day.

The arithmetic, said plainly

$295 is the price for the group, up to five people. Filled to five that is $59 a head for ten hours, hotel pickup and a SHIBUYA SKY ticket, which is less per person than every ticket-included walking tour on this site. For two people it is $147.50 each, and at that number you are paying a large premium for privacy and a van. Decide which of those two situations you are in before anything else. The wider price picture sits on the private tours page.

The day itself

The itinerary is fixed and it is long: an hour of transfer, two hours at Sensō-ji, two at Meiji Shrine, two at SHIBUYA SKY, an optional hour for a café lunch, an hour back. Meals are not included. Two hours on the deck is generous by the standard of what people usually do, since most visitors spend about 60 to 90 minutes and there is no enforced limit anyway — how long it takes covers that.

Two warnings from the listing rather than from me: it is not suitable for pregnant travellers, and not suitable for anyone who gets altitude sickness. Take both at face value.

Usually included

  • Hotel pickup and a van for the day
  • SHIBUYA SKY admission
  • A guide across six working languages
  • Sensō-ji, Meiji Shrine and the rooftop in one run

Not included

  • All meals, including the optional café lunch
  • Anything at the shrines or on the way
  • Suitability for pregnant travellers or anyone with altitude sickness

What the reviews say

There are four. That is the entire record, so the 5.0 next to it should be read as “nobody has complained yet” rather than as a settled score. Brandy from the United States wrote that “Baba was an amazing driver and guide during our Tokyo tour”, which at least tells you the driving and the guiding come from the same person and that it worked for her. If you want a rating with weight behind it, the backstreets walk has 614 reviews and the night walk has 249.

What works

  • Per-group pricing, so a full group of five undercuts the per-person tours
  • Hotel pickup and a van — the only booking here that removes the transport problem
  • Two hours scheduled on the deck, more than most people take
  • Six working languages, which no other tour here offers

Worth knowing

  • Only 4 reviews — almost no track record to lean on
  • Poor value for two people at the per-head cost
  • Ten hours is a whole day, and the itinerary is fixed
  • Meals excluded; not suitable if you are pregnant or prone to altitude sickness

Insider tip

Ask for the SHIBUYA SKY portion to land near sunset if the schedule allows it. Arriving about 30 minutes before sunset buys you daylight, the gold, and the moment the city lights come on, all on one ticket.

Who should not book this

Couples and solo travellers, on price. People who only want SHIBUYA SKY, because you are paying for two shrines and a van you did not ask for — the ticket-included walks do that job in two hours. Anyone who dislikes a fixed itinerary, or who has a day rather than a whole day to give. And anyone who needs a substantial body of reviews before they spend this much in one go.
