My verdict: this is the evening walk I point people at when the official portal has swallowed the sunset slot and they still want to be on the roof that night. Two hours, a guide working in English and Japanese, the Scramble Crossing at street level first and the open-air deck afterwards. The rooftop ticket sits inside the price, so there is nothing left to gamble on. It also carries the highest per-person price of any walking tour on this site, and if your slot is still available on the official portal you should buy that instead and close this page.

What you are actually buying

Strip it down and the tour is a guide, a guaranteed timed entry, a walk through the streets underneath the deck, and a photograph. The photograph is worth naming: the guide takes a 3D digital photo for you, which is the sort of thing that sounds like filler until you are standing on a windy rooftop at night discovering that your own phone cannot do it. The transport fee for the route is in the price. Food, drinks and hotel pickup are not.

The premium over the official ticket is the number to think about. A 15:00-onwards official slot is ¥3,400 online. Everything above that is buying you the guide, the entry that is guaranteed rather than hoped for, and two hours of Shibuya at street level. The pattern across 125 reviews is that people rate the guide first and the deck second. Michael from Germany called it “well planned and definitely worth the money to get a sneak peak into Shibuya’s nightlife”. Ellen from the United Kingdom had Nori, who she found “friendly and accommodating… took the time to really explain things”. Damian from Poland put it more bluntly and said his guide “had more energy and better stamina than I did”.

Insider tip

Bring a phone strap and wear flat shoes. The rooftop floor is grating and thin heels catch in it, bags go into the ¥100 refundable lockers on the 46th floor, and it is colder and windier up there than the street you left.

Who should not book this

Anyone holding an official slot already. Anyone whose budget is the deciding factor, because the pop culture walk bundles the same rooftop ticket for a good deal less. Anyone who wants daylight and a shot at Mount Fuji, which is a morning proposition and belongs to the Hachikō and Crossing tour. And anyone travelling with a group of five, where the per-group private day works out differently.

If it is raining hard or blowing, know before you go up that the open-air SKY STAGE closes in strong wind or heavy rain while the 46th-floor gallery stays open, and there is no refund once you have entered. That risk is yours on any tour here. Whether it is worth it in bad weather is a separate question and I answer it honestly.
